Nods and Thank Yous

  1. Sharon Gannon & David Life

The founders of Jivamukti Yoga and extremely gracious beings.  They taught me yoga, and faith, and kindness and patience. They taught me to practice, practice, practice.  I was a terrible student and still they taught.  They taught me non-violence and courage and to read the timeless classics of yoga.  They taught me to own my own mind and to value freedom when we have it.  Their loving presences lit up my life for years, even when I was nowhere near them.  And boy, did they ever teach me yoga.  The most extraordinary yoga teachers on the planet, in my opinion.

  • Saul Goodman

Founder of the International Schools of Shiatsu and creator of the Shiatsu Shin Tai bodywork techniques.  An extraordinary being who’d spent his life learning about the art of healing from all perspectives East, West and other dimensions.  In hundreds of treatments and years of classes I learned self-care, balance, macrobiotics, how to perceive the energy fields of the human experience.  He shared an understanding of  the human body unique and profound which influences my every step, and every sequence as a yoga teacher.  He taught me about integration and wholeness and once again, being sovereign in my own being.

  • Jai Uttal.

Have you heard Jai sing?  My favorite composer and guide through the deep caverns of the heart. He inspired me to find the perfect note…the perfect vibration in every note I sing and to feel it in my body. He taught me Nada Yoga without ever calling it that, and opened the door to understanding divine love in a whole new way.  His music also graced my playlists for more than a decade, and still does.

  • Ruth Lauer Menenti

A tough teacher, a controversial teacher, someone who I’d like to leave off the list, but I took Ruth’s classes for years at the Jivamukti Yoga School.  More than anyone else’s.  She was so good at teaching, you didn’t know you were being taught!  And she had a very masterful way with words.  I’m sure she influenced me in ways that I never imagined.  Pranams Ruth…may you be happy!

  • The Divine Mothers of Western New Jersey

At a critical moment in my teaching career I was blessed with a community of consistent, well practiced students who took class with me for at least seven year’s I think.  They held up the illusion that I was teaching when, all along, they were teaching me!  Many blessings to all of them.

  • Last but not least, the wild and rebellious crew of “apprentices” at the Jivamukti Yoga School.  In true coyote fashion they, like the divine mothers, maintained the illusion that I was teaching, when actually they were teaching me.  Hard Lessons!  They are all fabulous teachers in a variety of roles in the world.  In the best of all possible ways they have surpassed their teacher, which is as it should be.

Many blessings and thanks to all these holy beings for their gracious presences in my life.  Pranams.
